BlueStar appliances are made by Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc., a Pennsylvania company that says it has been building stoves since 1880. The line covers gas, dual fuel, and induction ranges, rangetops, cooktops, wall ovens, hoods, and refrigeration, and the ranges are offered in more than 1,000 colors and finishes.

What sets the buying experience apart is customization: the ranges come in a very large palette of standard and custom colors, along with different trim, knob, and metal finishes, so a range can be ordered to match a specific kitchen. The equipment is built to a commercial pattern and scaled for the home, aimed at cooks who want restaurant-style output and configuration behind a residential front.

Platinum, Nova, and Culinary: the BlueStar range series

  • Platinum Series ranges. Three versions: Platinum All Gas, Platinum Dual Fuel, and Platinum Induction. Gas and dual fuel come in 30, 36, 48, and 60 inches; induction comes in 36 and 48 inches. BlueStar lists X-8 sealed burners rated up to 25,000 BTU on its dual fuel range, paired with an electric true convection oven.
  • Nova (RNB). BlueStar's customizable series, with integrated cooking options and swing doors, in 30, 36, 48, and 60 inches.
  • Culinary (RCS). Open burner models in 30 and 36 inches, and sealed burner models in 30, 36, and 48 inches, with sealed burners rated up to 21,000 BTU.
  • Rangetops and cooktops. Rangetop options include 12 and 24 inch griddles, 12 and 24 inch charbroilers, and a 24 inch French top. Cooktops are listed in 30 and 36 inch gas and a 36 inch induction.
  • Wall ovens. Gas and electric, in 30 and 36 inches, including double ovens in 30 inches.

Open or sealed burners, fuel and color: checks before you choose

  • Open or sealed burners. BlueStar offers both. Nova and Culinary have open burner versions; the Platinum Series uses the X-8 sealed burner with a 500 BTU simmer on every burner. Decide which burner behavior you want before you pick a series.
  • Gas, dual fuel, or induction. Platinum comes in all three, and the oven differs: a gas convection oven with an infrared broiler on gas models, an electric true convection oven on dual fuel.
  • Width and configuration. Griddle, charbroiler, and French top options depend on the series, so confirm the configuration you want exists in the width you need. Bring the opening dimensions and gas line location.
  • Color. BlueStar says its ranges come in more than 1,000 colors and finishes, and says it will create a custom color from a sample you send. It also offers trim in copper, brass, or stainless steel, and colored knobs.
