What JennAir makes
JennAir covers cooking, refrigeration, and cleanup across two design expressions. Its ranges come in gas, dual-fuel, and electric, in the metallic RISE and blacked-out NOIR looks, with connected controls and Obsidian-finished oven interiors. The cooktops keep the brand's signature: a modular downdraft surface that accepts interchangeable cartridges, so a cook can swap in a grill, a griddle, or extra burners as the menu changes. Built-in column refrigerators and freezers install behind panels or in stainless, and wall ovens add steam-assist and app control. The line also includes ventilation hoods, dishwashers, and wine cellars, so a kitchen can be matched top to bottom in one aesthetic. The design intent is consistent: appliances meant to be seen as part of the room rather than hidden.

The heritage feature
The engineering JennAir is known for is the downdraft cooktop, which the company introduced in 1965 with an interchangeable-cartridge grill. A downdraft system pulls smoke, steam, and odors down at the cooking surface and vents them out, so a cooktop can sit in an island or a peninsula without an overhead hood breaking the sightline. The modular cartridge design extends that idea, letting the same surface become a grill, a griddle, or a set of burners depending on what is cooking. On the ovens, the Obsidian interior gives a dark, even-heating cavity, and connected controls handle preheat and monitoring from a phone. That combination of surface-level ventilation and a swappable cooktop is what has carried the brand's identity for decades.
