Best Panel-Ready Dishwashers
The best panel-ready dishwasher is the one whose opening width, panel weight limit, and door design let your cabinet maker match the doors beside it. Among the lines we carry, Cove, Bosch, Miele, and Fisher & Paykel each handle that differently, and the table below compares what each maker publishes.
| Model | Opening or unit width | Panel weight | Noise | Drying |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cove DW2451 | 23 5/8 or 24 in opening | up to 20 lb, under 16 lb ideal | 41 dBA | hot rinse and fan assist |
| Bosch SHV78CM3N | 24 in cutout, 23 5/8 in minimum opening | 7 to 24 lb, factory set for 11 to 18 lb | 42 dBA | CrystalDry |
| Miele G 7266 SCVi | 23 5/8 in niche | 4.0 to 12.0 kg | 42 dB(A) | AutoOpen |
| Fisher & Paykel DW24UT4I2 | 23 1/2 in unit width | see the maker's template | 42 dBA | fan assist and automatic door opening |
The seam test
A panel-ready dishwasher is sold without a front. Your cabinet maker builds a door panel that matches the cabinets around it, and the panel mounts to the dishwasher door. When it works, the dishwasher reads as one more cabinet door. When it doesn't, you see it right away: a gap that's wider than its neighbors, a panel that sits proud of the doors beside it, or a toe kick that steps in or out of line.
That's the seam test. Stand back from the run of cabinets and look at the lines. Wash performance matters too, and we cover it below, but fit is the part you can't change once the cabinets are in.
Panel-ready, fully integrated, or stainless
A panel-ready dishwasher takes a cabinet front. "Fully integrated" is the term some makers use for the same idea: Miele calls its panel-ready models fully integrated, and Bosch uses the phrase in its installation instructions. A stainless model ships with its own front and needs no panel, which is simpler when the dishwasher sits in a run of stainless appliances. Cove offers both. Choose panel-ready when the dishwasher should disappear into the cabinets, and stainless when it should match the appliances.
Inset or full overlay: decide how the panel should look
In a full-overlay kitchen the doors cover the cabinet boxes, so the dishwasher panel simply needs to match the size and gaps of the doors next to it. In an inset kitchen the doors sit inside a face frame, and the dishwasher bay has to be detailed so it reads the same way. Ask your cabinet maker how they plan to treat the dishwasher bay before you choose the dishwasher, because the answer may favor a certain opening width or panel thickness.
What the cabinet maker needs
Every maker publishes its own panel rules. Get them to your cabinet maker before the cabinets are built.
- The template
Makers supply a door template for locating the panel and its mounting holes. Cove lists its template as part number 828042. Bosch publishes a custom panel installation template for its 800 Series custom panel model.
- Panel weight
Settle the panel's weight before anyone cuts wood. Cove's limit is 20 pounds, and the maker calls a panel under 16 pounds ideal; above 16 pounds the door may not stay balanced. Bosch's SHV78CM3N accepts panels from 7 to 24 pounds but ships set up for 11 to 18 pounds, and Bosch asks you to call its customer service for anything outside that range. Miele's G 7266 SCVi sheet lists a front panel weight of 4.0 to 12.0 kilograms, about 9 to 26 pounds.
- Panel thickness and size
Cove calls for a panel at least 1/2 inch thick, at least 28 inches tall, and not taller than 30 3/8 inches per its design guide. Bosch calls for at least 3/4 inch and an overall panel length no longer than 30 1/8 inches.
- Door tension
A heavier or lighter panel changes how the door balances. Cove says its door tension can be adjusted for panel weight, which is why the weight needs to be known up front.
- Finished edges
Cove asks for all sides of the panel to be finished, because the edges show when the door is open.
- The toe kick
The dishwasher's kick has to line up with the cabinet toe kicks on either side. Cove sells stainless kickplates for its openings, and Bosch ships a toe panel with its dishwashers.
23 5/8 or 24 inches
Opening width is the measurement that most affects the seam test. Miele's G 7266 SCVi sheet lists a niche width of 23 5/8 inches, minimum and maximum. Bosch lists a 24-inch cutout for the SHV78CM3N and allows an opening as narrow as 23 5/8 inches in its instructions. Cove accepts either width, with tighter reveals at 23 5/8 inches; our Cove dishwasher review covers its panel kits for each. If your cabinets are already built, measure first and choose second.
Settle the panel's weight before anyone cuts wood.
How the panel-ready lines we carry differ
No maker below publishes a lab score we could fairly compare, so this section sticks to design choices each maker states about its own product.
Cove comes from the Sub-Zero Group. The DW2451 measures 23 5/8 inches wide and 34 1/2 inches tall, hides its controls along the top edge of the door, and dries with a hot rinse and fan assist. Cove publishes 41 dBA and notes the figure depends on the model and cycle. A WS version adds a built-in water softener.
Bosch offers custom panel models across its 800 Series, 300 Series, Benchmark, and 100 Series, and says the design allows a fully flush install. The 800 Series SHV78CM3N measures 33 7/8 by 23 9/16 by 23 1/16 inches, publishes 42 dBA, dries with what Bosch calls CrystalDry, and carries a flexible third rack.
Miele calls its panel-ready models fully integrated. The G 7266 SCVi lists 42 dB(A) with an Extra Quiet program at 39 dB(A), AutoOpen drying, and a 3D MultiFlex tray for cutlery. Its niche height runs from 33 3/4 to 36 1/4 inches. Miele's sheet says it tested G 5000 and G 7000 series models and core components for 5,600 wash cycles during development, which it counts as 280 cycles a year for 20 years.
Fisher & Paykel gives you two formats. Its Series 9 Integrated Tall Dishwasher (DW24UT4I2) is a conventional door model, 23 1/2 inches wide, with fan-assisted drying and a door that opens automatically at the end of the cycle; the maker lists 42 dBA and 15 place settings. Its integrated DishDrawer models split the dishwasher into drawers. On the Series 9 double (DD24DI9 N), each drawer washes on its own, so you can run one while loading the other.
ASKO is also on our line card; ask us for its current spec sheets if it's on your list.
Planning the install
Panel-ready dishwasher installation goes smoothly when the rough-in is settled at the same time as the cabinet drawings.
- Power
Cove calls for a 115-volt, 15-amp dedicated circuit. Bosch calls for a dishwasher-dedicated, grounded circuit on a 15- or 20-amp fuse or breaker. Have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit and receptacle location.
- Water and drain
Cove ships with 5 feet of braided water tubing with a 3/8-inch female compression fitting and 5 feet of corrugated drain tubing, and lists a water pressure range of 30 to 140 psi. A licensed plumber should confirm the supply, shut-off, and drain against your local building department's requirements.
- Securing the unit
A dishwasher has to be fastened into its opening so it can't tip when the door is loaded. Bosch supplies mounting brackets for either the countertop or the cabinet sides (side mounting for stone or solid surface tops), and for a fully integrated panel it says to attach the brackets only after the panel is on the door.
- Door swing
Cove lists 26 3/4 inches of room needed in front of the open door. Check that distance against an island, a facing drawer bank, or a nearby range.
Common panel-ready problems
Most problems trace back to the panel. A panel heavier than the maker's limit can unbalance the door, reveals come out uneven when the opening width doesn't match the panel, a toe kick set at the wrong height breaks the line of the cabinets, and an unfinished panel edge shows every time the door opens. Each one is easier to prevent on the drawings than to fix after installation.
A custom cabinet maker such as DreamLine Custom Cabinetry builds the dishwasher panel to the maker's template and weight limit, and custom cabinetry built around panel-ready appliances starts with that spec sheet, so share it early. Which fits which kitchen
There's no single winner without knowing your cabinets. Here's how the design choices sort out. For the rest of the kitchen, see all our appliance buying guides.
- A kitchen planned around Sub-Zero and Wolf
Cove comes from the same manufacturer and offers stainless panels and handles that match them.
- A new build where you control the opening
Any of these lines can work. Build the opening to the width your chosen maker recommends and you'll get the tightest reveals.
- A heavy or thick panel
Compare published weight limits before you compare anything else. Cove tops out at 20 pounds, and Bosch's SHV78CM3N accepts up to 24 pounds with a call to Bosch outside its factory range of 11 to 18.
- A household that runs light loads often, or wants to wash without bending
Fisher & Paykel's integrated DishDrawer models let each drawer run separately.
- A cutlery-heavy household
Miele's 3D MultiFlex tray and Bosch's flexible third rack both add a top level for utensils.

Questions to ask in the showroom
- Is my opening 23 5/8 or 24 inches, and what reveal will that give me with this model?
- How much will my panel weigh, and is that inside this maker's range without adjusting the door?
- Is my panel thick enough, and will a thicker panel change the depth of a flush install?
- How will the toe kick line up with the cabinets on either side?
- Is a dedicated circuit already in place where the maker wants the receptacle?
- Where does the open door land against the island or facing drawers?
