What Elica makes
Elica builds kitchen ventilation with a strong design bent. The catalog covers chimney wall hoods, island hoods that hang over a cooking island, under-cabinet models, and insert liners that hide inside custom cabinetry, in shapes that range from plain stainless canopies to glass, painted, and sculptural forms meant to read as a fixture in the room. Alongside the hoods, Elica builds a downdraft cooktop that integrates ventilation into the cooking surface, pulling steam and smoke down at the level of the pans rather than up to a canopy overhead. Blowers are offered at several airflow ratings to match the heat a cooktop or pro range produces, with internal, in-line, and remote mounting options. Filters, multi-speed controls, and task lighting are standard across the line. The company is a large Italian ventilation producer, and its residential range leans on Italian styling.
The hood as a design object
What separates Elica is the emphasis on how the hood looks and where the air is captured. Many of its models are built to be seen, using curved glass, colored panels, and slim profiles so the ventilation reads as part of the room's design rather than a utility box. The technical work sits behind that: baffle and perimeter filters guide grease-laden air into the blower, and airflow ratings let a hood be matched to the output below it. The downdraft cooktop takes a different route, integrating an extractor into the cooking surface so steam is pulled down and out through a duct, which suits islands and open layouts where an overhead canopy would block sightlines. In-line and remote blower mounting moves the motor away from the kitchen to cut the noise heard at the range.
