Cove Dishwasher Review

What Cove is

Cove is the dishwasher line from the Sub-Zero Group, the company that builds Sub-Zero refrigeration and Wolf cooking. The manufacturer describes it as sharing the same DNA as those two brands, and the design follows from that: a Cove is built to sit in the same run of cabinetry as a Sub-Zero column and a Wolf range and to match them.

This review sticks to what Cove publishes about its own dishwashers, then turns that into the questions that decide whether one fits your kitchen. It does not rate Cove against lab scores or hand out stars, because no such numbers come from the maker.

The lineup: one width, a few versions

Cove builds a 24-inch built-in dishwasher. The current generation carries DW2451 model numbers; the earlier DW2450 is listed by the maker as a legacy model. Within the DW2451 family the versions differ in three ways.

  • Door finish

Each model is panel-ready, so it can take a cabinet panel that matches your millwork. For a metal look, Cove sells stainless steel door panel kits with a choice of a tubular handle or a pro handle, which lets the dishwasher match other Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove products.

  • Water treatment

Versions marked WS add a built-in water softener that adjusts the salt it uses to the hardness of your water.

  • Height

An ADA height version stands 32 1/2 inches tall instead of the standard 34 1/2, for accessible counters or a height restriction, and it has its own stainless panel kits.

Washing, drying, and noise

Inside, the wash system drives three spray arms and 45 spray jets, and a four-stage fine mesh filter pulls out food and grease so clean water is what recirculates. Cove lists 12 wash cycles and 6 add-on options that can be combined, plus soil-sensing cycles that adjust to the load.

Drying uses a hot rinse and fan assist, which the maker says removes the need to towel off glasses afterward. The tub is stainless steel with a fastenerless interior. On noise, Cove publishes 41 dBA on its spec sheet and notes the figure depends on the model and the cycle, so compare it against other sheets that state their own test conditions.

Racks and loading, per the spec sheet

  • Height-adjustable middle rack

Raise it for tall stemware or drop it to clear large pots below.

  • Fold-down tines

On the lower and middle racks, to open space for pans and serving pieces.

  • Adjustable stemware rail and cup shelf

Holds glasses steady and adds a tier for cups.

  • Upper silverware rack plus a utensil basket

Flatware can lie flat up top, and larger tools go in the basket.

  • Easy-glide bottom rack

The rack you load most, set to roll out smoothly.

  • Four interior LED lights

Two on the sides and two on top, so the back of the racks is visible.

Installation and panel planning

Plan the opening before the cabinets are built. Cove fits a 23 5/8-inch opening, which gives the smallest reveals and is the maker's recommendation for new construction, or a standard 24-inch opening, where the reveals come out wider unless the panel width is adjusted. The stainless panel kits come in both sizes and have to be ordered to match.

The unit measures 23 5/8 inches wide, 34 1/2 inches tall, and 23 1/4 inches deep, and its height adjusts from 33 3/4 to 34 3/4 inches to meet the counter. The open door reaches 26 3/4 inches into the room, so check islands and facing cabinets. It runs on a 115-volt, 15-amp dedicated circuit. For a custom panel, the manufacturer publishes width, height, weight, and thickness requirements that your cabinet maker should build to.

The app and leak protection

The controls sit hidden along the top edge of the door, with a discreet status light, so a paneled Cove reads as a cabinet. Through the Sub-Zero Group Owner's App you can start or monitor a cycle remotely and get an alert when rinse aid runs low.

A conductivity sensor in the base stops a running cycle if it detects a leak. The DW2451 models carry ENERGY STAR certification, and the maker backs every Cove dishwasher with a full two-year warranty. Ask for the written warranty terms if you want the detail on what is covered after that.

How Cove compares in approach

At this level the useful comparison is design choices rather than a single score. Line up a Cove against any other model you are considering on the same points: how flatware is handled (Cove pairs an upper rack with a basket), how the dishes are dried (Cove uses a hot rinse with a fan), how the noise figure was measured, where the controls sit, and how the door integrates with a panel.

The distinct Cove argument is the kitchen around it. If the plan already includes Sub-Zero or Wolf, a Cove matches their stainless panels and handle styles and comes from the same manufacturer. If the dishwasher stands alone in the plan, weigh it on racks, drying, and noise like any other choice.

Plan the opening before the cabinets are built.

Who a Cove suits

A Cove fits a fully paneled kitchen where the dishwasher should disappear, a kitchen matching Sub-Zero and Wolf in stainless, and a household that runs the dishwasher every day and wants racks that adjust around big pots and tall glasses. It also fits homes with hard water, where the WS versions treat the water at the machine.

It is a 24-inch built-in format. If the space calls for a different width or a drawer format, settle that before choosing a brand, since it narrows the field more than any feature does.

Questions to ask in the showroom

  • Is my opening 23 5/8 or 24 inches?

It changes the reveals and which stainless panel kit to order.

  • Panel or stainless?

A cabinet panel has to meet the maker's weight and thickness limits.

  • Do I need the water softener version?

Worth asking if your water leaves spots or scale.

  • Standard or ADA height?

The ADA version is 32 1/2 inches tall, two inches under the standard 34 1/2.

  • Where does the door land when open?

Check the 26 3/4-inch swing against the island and facing drawers.

  • Is a dedicated circuit in place?

Cove calls for a 115-volt, 15-amp dedicated circuit.
