What Sacramento Is Searching for in Kitchen and Laundry Appliances: 2026 Trends Report
On this page
We pulled five years of Google Trends data for California and a year of Google search volumes for the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto television market (the Sacramento DMA, called the Sacramento market below), across eighteen kitchen and laundry appliance searches. The short version: laundry is where search behavior changed most, gas still leads induction in Google Trends interest, while Google Ads monthly volumes put "induction cooktop" ahead of "gas stove", and Sacramento searches lean toward everyday terms and away from built-in ones compared with the rest of California. Every figure below comes from a named data pull on 2026-10-13, and the tables are free to cite with the attribution at the end.
Key findings
- California search interest in "heat pump dryer" was 5.4 times higher in 2025 than in 2022, from a very low base, and interest in "all in one washer dryer" was 4.8 times higher. No other term in our trend charts grew as fast.
- In California's Google Trends data, "gas stove" still draws about 3 times the search interest of "induction cooktop", and that gap did not close between 2022 and 2025. Google Ads volumes read differently: in the Sacramento market "induction cooktop" draws 1,600 searches a month against 1,000 for "gas stove" (Chart 4). The shift shows up in ranges instead: "induction range" grew +41% while "gas range" moved +2%.
- Across eleven California markets, induction holds 27.8% of the combined Google Trends interest in "induction cooktop" and "gas stove" in the Sacramento market, which ranks fifth of eleven: behind San Diego, the Bay Area, Santa Barbara, and Palm Springs (a near tie at 28.6%), and ahead of Los Angeles, Fresno, and Bakersfield.
- Of the eighteen terms we tracked, the most searched in the Sacramento market, by average monthly searches, are "induction cooktop" (1,600), "electric stove" (1,300), and a tie between "gas stove" and "washer dryer combo" (1,000 each).
- Built-in kitchen terms such as "steam oven", "column refrigerator", and the two "panel ready" terms take a smaller share of California's searches in the Sacramento market than everyday terms do, while "all in one washer dryer", "induction range", and "smart refrigerator" take a larger one.
Laundry moved the most: heat pump and all-in-one dryers
The biggest change across our trend charts is in the laundry room. Interest in "heat pump dryer" went from a low base in 2022 (most 2022 weeks registered below 1 on the index) to 5.4 times that level in 2025, and the latest July to September window (7.5 on the index) is still well above the same months of 2022 (2.7). "All in one washer dryer" followed the same path. "Ventless dryer" grew +55% and the long-established "washer dryer combo" grew +29%.
| Search term | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | Trend line | 2022 to 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| heat pump dryer | 1.4 | 5.1 | 7.3 | 7.6 | 5.4x | |
| all in one washer dryer | 2.0 | 6.5 | 9.6 | 9.8 | 4.8x | |
| ventless dryer | 6.6 | 7.3 | 9.4 | 10 | +55% | |
| washer dryer combo | 40 | 47 | 51 | 52 | +29% |
Heat pump dryers answer a specific problem: ENERGY STAR describes them as closed-loop machines that use around 70% less energy than a conventional dryer and need no dryer vent, which matters in condos, apartments, and remodels where a vent run is hard to add. In the Sacramento market, "heat pump dryer" draws 140 searches a month and "all in one washer dryer" draws 390. Within California, Sacramento's interest in "heat pump dryer" is 52 on a scale where the Bay Area, the highest market, is 100.
Induction and gas: the two data sources disagree
Search interest for cooktops has barely moved. In the California data, "induction cooktop" changed +4% from 2022 to 2025 and "gas stove" changed +10%. Ranges tell a different story: "induction range" grew +41%, so for every 100 units of interest in "gas range", induction range went from 19 in 2022 to 26 in 2025.
| Search term | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | Trend line | 2022 to 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| induction cooktop | 9.8 | 11 | 9.4 | 10 | +4% | |
| gas stove | 29 | 32 | 29 | 32 | +10% | |
| induction range | 4.0 | 5.5 | 5.1 | 5.6 | +41% | |
| gas range | 21 | 19 | 19 | 22 | +2% |
Market by market, the split varies widely. The chart below shows induction's share of the combined interest in "induction cooktop" and "gas stove" over the past twelve months in each California television market. San Diego, the Bay Area, and Santa Barbara lead, Fresno and Bakersfield trail, and the Sacramento market sits in between at 27.8%.
| TV market (DMA) | Bar | Induction share |
|---|---|---|
| San Diego | 36.1% | |
| San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose | 34.7% | |
| Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-San Luis Obispo | 30.7% | |
| Palm Springs | 28.6% | |
| Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto | 27.8% | |
| Monterey-Salinas | 25.9% | |
| Los Angeles | 25.0% | |
| Eureka | 22.0% | |
| Chico-Redding | 21.7% | |
| Fresno-Visalia | 19.3% | |
| Bakersfield | 14.1% |
Seasonality is mild. In the Sacramento market, "induction cooktop" ran at 1,900 searches a month from November through January and 1,600 in every other month, and "gas stove" peaked at 1,600 in November. Both peaks fall in the holiday cooking season. For how the two actually cook, see our induction vs gas range guide.
What the Sacramento market searches most
Volume is a different lens from growth. These are Google's average monthly searches in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto market for the eighteen terms we tracked, from September 2025 to August 2026. Cooking terms lead, with "induction cooktop" and "electric stove" on top. "Heat pump water heater" is not a kitchen or laundry appliance, but we tracked it as a reference point for electrification interest in the same homes, and it draws 720 searches a month. The two sources measure differently: Google Trends scores relative interest in an exact term over time, while Google Ads estimates monthly searches for the keyword. This report uses Trends for direction and Google Ads for size, and does not rank "gas stove" against "induction cooktop" on either one alone.
| Search term | Bar | Sacramento | California |
|---|---|---|---|
| induction cooktop | 1,600 | 14,800 | |
| electric stove | 1,300 | 9,900 | |
| gas stove | 1,000 | 9,900 | |
| washer dryer combo | 1,000 | 9,900 | |
| induction stove | 880 | 8,100 | |
| heat pump water heater | 720 | 6,600 | |
| counter depth refrigerator | 720 | 6,600 | |
| gas range | 390 | 3,600 | |
| all in one washer dryer | 390 | 2,900 | |
| induction range | 260 | 1,900 | |
| ventless dryer | 170 | 1,900 | |
| heat pump dryer | 140 | 1,300 | |
| panel ready refrigerator | 140 | 1,600 | |
| smart refrigerator | 140 | 880 | |
| steam oven | 90 | 1,300 | |
| panel ready dishwasher | 70 | 880 | |
| smart oven | 40 | 390 | |
| column refrigerator | 10 | 140 |
Where Sacramento leans compared with the rest of California
To see what Sacramento-area shoppers care about more or less than other Californians, we divided each term's Sacramento-market volume by its statewide volume. The typical term lands at 10.8% (the median of all eighteen). Terms well above that line get more than their usual share of attention here; terms below it get less. Because Google rounds volumes into bands, read gaps of a point or less as a tie.
| Search term | Bar | Share of California |
|---|---|---|
| smart refrigerator | 15.9% | |
| induction range | 13.7% | |
| all in one washer dryer | 13.4% | |
| electric stove | 13.1% | |
| induction stove | 10.9% | |
| heat pump water heater | 10.9% | |
| counter depth refrigerator | 10.9% | |
| induction cooktop | 10.8% | |
| gas range | 10.8% | |
| heat pump dryer | 10.8% | |
| smart oven | 10.3% | |
| gas stove | 10.1% | |
| washer dryer combo | 10.1% | |
| ventless dryer | 8.9% | |
| panel ready refrigerator | 8.8% | |
| panel ready dishwasher | 8.0% | |
| column refrigerator | 7.1% | |
| steam oven | 6.9% |
The pattern mostly holds. Several everyday terms over-index: "smart refrigerator" (15.9%), "induction range" (13.7%), and "all in one washer dryer" (13.4%). Built-in, design-led terms under-index: "steam oven" (6.9%), "column refrigerator" (7.1%), and "panel ready dishwasher" (8.0%), with "panel ready refrigerator" (8.8%) just behind. Those built-in terms are small in absolute numbers, so they move in coarse steps, but all four sit below the median. Not every everyday term over-indexes: "ventless dryer" (8.9%) also sits below it.
Kitchen layout and connected features
Among kitchen features, "steam oven" (+33%) and "smart refrigerator" (+40%) grew steadily in California from 2022 to 2025. "Counter depth refrigerator" draws the most interest of these four and held level (-4%), which reads as steady demand rather than a fad: it is a fit question for any kitchen where the refrigerator sits in a counter run. "Panel ready refrigerator" is small but rose from 2022 to 2025. "Column refrigerator" is too small in Google Trends to chart; Google Ads puts it at 140 searches a month statewide.
| Search term | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | Trend line | 2022 to 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| counter depth refrigerator | 14 | 12 | 12 | 13 | -4% | |
| steam oven | 6.9 | 7.2 | 7.8 | 9.2 | +33% | |
| smart refrigerator | 4.0 | 4.2 | 5.1 | 5.7 | +40% | |
| panel ready refrigerator | 0.9 | 0.6 | 1.2 | 1.4 | +61% |

What this means if you are planning a kitchen or laundry room
- If you are thinking about induction, plan the circuit before the cabinets. ENERGY STAR notes that induction transfers about 85% of its heating energy to what is in the pan, against about a third for gas (Frontier Energy, July 2019, as cited by ENERGY STAR), and that it needs magnetic cookware; a fridge magnet that sticks to the bottom of a pan tells you it will work.
- If you have no dryer vent, or a long and awkward one, a heat pump dryer, or an all-in-one unit with a ventless dryer, removes the vent from the plan. It does need a drain or a tank you empty, so plan where the water goes.
- If a refrigerator sticks out past your counters, measure the opening depth before you shop; counter-depth is a category, not one number.
- Utility programs for electric appliances change often. SMUD customers can check SMUD's home appliance programs on smud.org, which, as of 2026-10-13, included induction cooktops and ranges; customers of other utilities should check their own utility's site.
Methodology
All data was pulled on 2026-10-13 through the DataForSEO Keywords Data API. Search volumes are Google Ads average monthly searches in English for September 2025 to August 2026, for three locations: the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto DMA, California, and the United States. Google reports them in rounded bands (for example 1,300, 1,600, and 1,900), so small differences are not meaningful.
Trend series are Google Trends web-search interest for California over the past five years (weekly points from October 2021 to October 2026). Google Trends scales each request to its own peak of 100, so each trend chart comes from one request and its values compare only with each other. We averaged the weekly values by calendar year and report 2022 through 2025, the four full years in the window. Weeks Google reports as below 1 count as 0. Google Trends is computed from a sample of searches, so values can shift slightly between pulls. Where a 2022 base is very low, the multiples are sensitive: comparing January to October only, or using a second California request with the same terms, gives about four to six times for "heat pump dryer" and about four to five times for "all in one washer dryer". Read them as approximate. The market comparison in Chart 3 is Google Trends interest by DMA within California for the past twelve months, with both terms in a single request. That twelve-month window includes March to June 2026 (see below); because both terms and every market share the same request, we report the market split, but treat small gaps between markets as ties.
One data window is left out. From March to June 2026, unrelated terms in every California request rose together and then fell back in July ("smart refrigerator" went from single digits to above 60 and back), while Google Ads volumes for the same months show no such jump. A simultaneous rise across unrelated searches points to a change in how Google Trends sampled the data, not to demand, so the year-over-year figures use full years before it and a same-season check after it (July to September 2026 against July to September 2022). The latest window confirms the direction of every laundry trend reported here.
Google Trends and Google Ads can rank the same two terms differently. Where they disagree, we report both. Search interest measures what people look up, not what they buy, and one search term never captures a whole category. No figure here is a sales figure, and no brand data was used.
